MAMA Fest 2016 cancelled!

The 2016 MAMA Fest has been cancelled. It's a real shame as this was one of the main events on the The Hollow Mountain String Band calendar for this year.

Never fear, The Hollow Mountain String Band still has plenty of live music to play over the next few months, with The Mull of Kintyre Music Festival (MoKFest) gig next Friday (19th August), where the band will be delivering a blistering set of bluegrass, old time, country music, blues, and a couple of surprises thrown in!

MAMAFEST 2016 CANCELLED - CONSOLATION MAMAFEST PLANNED INSTEAD

It is with deep regret that the MAMAFest Commitee has taken the difficult decision to cancel this year's festival for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of September 2016.

Just yesterday (3 weeks before the event) we were informed by the RFCA, owners of the Drill Hall which has been our venue for the past 2 years, that they had reviewed their terms, conditions and hall fees. They have now put so many additional conditions in place that the use of the hall and courtyard area has become unfeasible for the event to be held there. Added to this is a massive increase in hall fees (over 400%) which MAMAFest simply cannot afford.

As most of you will know, at present MAMAFest is entirely self funding and will always be not-for-profit. Our ethos is to promote live music in Mid Argyll and to be a vehicle for Argyll based musicians to come together, showcase their music and help us provide an entertaining community music festival for the people of Mid Argyll.

We are deeply sorry for the musicians involved and the Mid Argyll community who wanted to join us again this year and who have supported us so far. We are adamant that we will find a way forward for MAMAFest to continue. With this in mind we are planning on holding a slightly smaller festival on the same dates - 2nd, 3rd and 4th of September - in the Argyll Inn, Lochgilphead and thank Steesh and Blair for being so supportive.

The committee is confident that we, with yours and the fabulous musicians of Argyll's help, can keep MAMAFest alive.
