New original material

Rab has had a somewhat creative burst lately, and has written a whole load of songs and tunes, so we are busy learning all the parts and integrating them into the set. We already have a few that are gig ready but we aim to have most of our set for MoKFest as original material.

The Hollow Mountain String Band are aiming to have a repertoire full of original songs and tunes. Rab has seven finished songs with about five that are being gigged already, with another two ready to go. Music in Oban, Argyll just got a lot more interesting! As a live band Hollow Mountain already have a great show with classics and old favourites, and a few modern ones thrown into their set.

The upcoming music festival gigs are the perfect platform for the new material, and the band hope to have a set with these new songs ready for those gigs.

The songs cover a wide range of styles, from traditional bluegrass, to country, through blues and into western swing. Rab has also written a couple of tunes which are good enough to stand on their own, but have been integrated into two of the new songs for a double whammy!

Ann has also written a new tune. A waltz which was written for a friend of her's 100th birthday! It's a great tune and this is also in the mix. With another of Rab's older compositions in line Hollow Mountain have plenty of work ahead, and dare I say the makings of an album!
